The first Amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
My Bible tells me to worship my God in everything I do. Yet my government is passing laws telling me I can't. Why are the Atheists and Gnostic's rights protected and mine aren't.
This country was founded so people could worship without being prohibited. It was NOT founded to allow people to ESCAPE religion. My opinion is, if people want to to have a country without a God. Let the discover their own country, or go to one of the many countries that do not acknowledge God.

The government did not pass any law saying that you cannot worship God. Where did you hear that? What happened was a judge decided that the government endorsing a certain kind of worship (a national day of prayer) is crossing the line. As you quoted, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" and endorsing prayer would be a law respecting the establishment of religion. There is a reason Jefferson wrote about establishing a wall of separation between church and state, and it is as much to protect the rights of believers as it is to protect non-believers, or those who believe differently from those in power. Everybody is free to pray every single day in any way they see fit. But it is crossing the line for the government to officially encourage people to do so, just as it would be crossing the line if we had a National Day of Goat Sacrifice. And think about it - do you really want government to be involved in endorsing some religions over others? As much as the government tends to mess things up, isn't better if the government just keeps their noses out of religion and lets everybody just do as they see fit (within reason, provided they aren't harming anybody)?

"This country was founded so people could worship without being prohibited. It was NOT founded to allow people to ESCAPE religion."
I challenge you to find God in the Constitution. Also, if a person is free to reject religion A in favor of religion B, or to reject B in favor of A, then clearly rejecting both is allowed as well.

And I found this part "Let the[m] discover their own country, or go to one of the many countries that do not acknowledge God" particularly stressing. You do know that European Christians were not the first ones here, right? You raped, pillaged, and slaughtered to establish this country.

John, I totally disagree. First amendment was to free us from government imposing religion. If we force our religion on others it is no more correct than having others for religion on us.

I do appreciate your willingness to explore what you believe and express it.
