Cake can be so expensive

Why is everybody so interested in the Queen. Actually she is contrary to what this country stands for. "All men are created equal." Who said it first? I know Abraham Lincoln said it. He said this country was founded on that concept.
If that's true, but maybe it isn't in England, how can there be a royal family? Can they be national leaders simply because they were born in that family? Actually, the Queen Mum wasn't born in that family at all. She married into it.
I didn't see her while she was here, and I'm not sorry I didn't. The one I would have liked to met, was Dianna. Now there was a woman that did the world some good.

Hi John. The queen is a figurehead of the UK, not the countries leader. There are some constitutional ties to the monarchy - for example, the queen instructs/allows any new Prime Minister to form 'her' new government, but it's mostly cermonial. The royal family is probably more revered outside the UK than in it. We have an historic custom of poking fun at all our leaders, and the monarchy is no exception. In fact many in the UK are probably republicans at heart, and would probably have more sympathy with the likes of Tom Paine who contributed many ideas to the US independence, and supported the US and France in their revolutions. And like any other family, the royal family has its share of the good, the bad and the down right odd.
